Cmdr. Jeff Oakey, commanding officer of the amphibious transport dock ship USS New Orleans, speaks during a memorial service for Petty Officer 2nd Class Jarod Newlove, culinary specialist, who was killed in Afghanistan while serving as an individual augmentee. Newlove was a plank owner, or member of the commissioning crew, on New Orleans before accepting the assignment. New Orleans is participating in Southern Partnership Station 2010, an annual deployment of U.S. military training teams to the U.S. Southern Command area of responsibility.
