U.S. FIFTH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (Dec. 01, 2016) Petty Officer 2nd Class Morgan Whitsel, assigned to the guided-missile destroyer USS Nitze (DDG 94), stands watch as part of the small craft action team (SCAT) during a routine, scheduled transit. Whitsel serves aboard Nitze as a sonar technician and is responsible for ship surveillance and operating sonar equipment. Nitze, deployed as part of the Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group, is supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations.
