161129-N-WA189-326 OKINAWA, Japan (Nov. 29, 2016) Petty Officer 2nd Class Nicholas Kerver, assigned to Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 5, gives directions to a forklift operator placing a container on line with others on Camp Shields during an embark exercise. The exercise tests the commands ability to mobilize within 48 hours to react to different types of types of contingency operations around the world. NMCB 5 is the forward deployed Western Pacific NMCB ready to support Major Combat Operations, Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief operations, and to provide general engineering and civil support to Navy, Marine Corps and joint operational forces. Homeported out of Port Hueneme, Calif., NMCB 5 has 12 detachment sites deployed throughout the United States and Western Pacific area of operations.
