On Sept. 10, 2006 Marines with 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics group here present their firearms after a 21-shot rifle salute in honor of Staff Sgt. Dwayne E. Williams, a team leader with 3rd Explosive Ordinance Disposal Platoon, 9th ESB and Sgt. John P. Phillips, a explosive ordinance technician with 3rd EOD platoon during a memorial held at main side chapel here Sept. 10. Williams, a Baltimore native, lost his life Aug. 24, 2006 from wounds sustained while engaged in operations in the Al Anbar Province. Phillips, a St. Stephen, S.C., native, died Aug. 16, 2006 at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, succumbing from wounds received March 7, 2006 while involved in operations in the Al Anbar Province. "These men were both completely different, but they shared a similar trait, they were the embodiment of the quiet, hard-working professional," said Master Sgt. Ingbretsen, platoon commander of 3rd Explosive Ordinance Disposal Platoon and a Spokane, Wash., native. 3rd Explosive Ordinance Disposal Platoon, 9th Engineer Support Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group is deployed with I MEF (FWD) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in the Al Anbar Province of Iraq (MNF-W) to develop the Iraqi Security Forces, facilitate the development of official rule of law through democratic government reforms, and continue the development of a market based economy centered on Iraqi Reconstruction.
