U.S. Navy Lt. j.g. Christina Hammervold, Task Force Sparta platoon commander assigned to the Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, sprints her two-mile run graded to Army standards during the Joint Warrior Competition, Nov. 19, 2016, Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti. The run began after participants had already completed pull-ups, sit-ups, and push-ups. Members involved in the event met on the turf field pre-dawn to begin the day of events. Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa is a multinational effort to conduct theater security cooperation, combat violent extremism and enable freedom of movement within East Africa in order to defend U.S. interests and support aligned regional efforts.
