KAIKOURA, New Zealand (Nov. 18, 2016) Chief Petty Officer Phillip Pickle, assigned to USS Sampson (DDG 102), assists a Kaikoura resident with filling her water containers. A group of 18 U.S. Sailors and Coast Guardsmen came ashore from Sampson to support New Zealand forces in rendering assistance to residents affected by the recent earthquake. Sampson, at the request of the government of New Zealand, remains off the coast of New Zealand’s South Island to offer assistance. (U.S. Embassy New Zealand photo by Ola Thorsen)
