A drill instructor from Charlie Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, instructs a recruit to unlock his sea bag during pick up at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Oct. 14. The recruits are instructed to keep their valuable gear secured at all times to learn to stay accountable for them. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Charlie Company is scheduled to graduate Jan. 6.
