A drill instructor from Charlie Company, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, instructs a recruit to unlock his sea bag during pick up at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Oct. 14. The new recruits conducted an initial gear inspection to ensure they were prepared to begin training. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Charlie Company is scheduled to graduate Jan. 6.
