Tim Norman discusses the story of Kady Brownell, the heroine of New Bern, with Marines from Marine Air Control Group 28 during a professional military education class at the New Bern Battlefield near New Bern, N.C., Oct. 12, 2016. The PME taught the Marines about the historical significance of the Battle of New Bern during the Civil War and what the soldiers went through to complete their missions. The PME consisted of a classroom presentation of the Battle of New Bern and a tour of the battlefield that was led by Norman, founder and president of Craven Battlefield Preservation Associates, and Jim White, administrative secretary of Craven Battlefield Preservation Associates.
