161005-N-TH560-047 SUBIC BAY, Philippines (Oct. 5, 2016) Sailors and Marines, assigned to 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), perform gear checks in the hangar bay of amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) during Philippine Amphibious Landing Exercise 33 (PHIBLEX). PHIBLEX 33 is an annual U.S.-Philippine military bilateral exercise that combines amphibious landing and live-fire training with humanitarian civic assistance efforts to strengthen interoperability and working relationships. Bonhomme Richard, flagship of the Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility in support of security and stability in the Indo-Asia Pacific region.
