    Rear Adm. Roy I. Kitchener, commander of Expeditionary Strike Group Two (ESG2) arrives aboard the amphibious transport dock ship USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19) to direct preparation and planning of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts. Mesa Verde is underway in preparation to support humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts of Joint Task Force Matthew in Haiti, Oct. 5, 2016. JTF Matthew was a U.S. Southern Command lead humanitarian assistance, disaster relief effort in Haiti following Hurricane Matthew. Matthew was a category 4 hurricane that formed in the Western Atlantic Ocean and affected Haiti, eastern Cuba, and the Bahamas before moving up the southeast coast of the United States.
