South Carolina National Guard Soldier, Staff Sgt. Wayne Williams, 1052nd Transportation Company, opens the back of a truck at the Charleston Convention Center Oct. 7. The trucks will be loaded with and then deliver meals to a Red Cross shelter in Goose Creek, South Carolina later that day, as Hurricane Matthew closes in on the state. Approximately 2,000 South Carolina National Guard Soldiers and Airmen have been activated since Oct. 4, 2016 to support state and county emergency management agencies and local first responders after Governor Nikki Haley declared a State of Emergency.
