161001-N-OI810-011 PHILIPPINE SEA (Oct. 1, 2016) The Navy's only forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), conducts a live-fire exercise of its Phalanx Close-in Weapons System (CIWS). The CIWS combines a 20 mm Gatling gun with search-and-tracking radar to provide surface ships with terminal defense against anti-ship missiles. Ronald Reagan, the Carrier Strike Group Five (CSG 5) flagship, is on patrol supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
