A paratrooper assigned to Delaware Company, 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division, U.S. Army Alaska, throws a M67 fragmentation grenade during live fire training at Kraft Range on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, Sept. 29, 2016. In order to maintain a safe instructional environment and enforce safety standards, a ‘pit’ noncommissioned officer supervised the Soldiers who were conducting the training in the grenade pits, directing them on proper handling and use of explosives. The fragmentation hand grenade has a lethal radius of 5 meters and can produce casualties up to 15 meters, dispersing fragments as far as 230 meters. (U.S. Air Force photo/Alejandro Pena)
