160917-N-OY799-046 PHILIPPINE SEA (Sept. 17, 2016) Quartermaster Seaman Recruit Reena Cruz, from Wharton, Texas, is sprayed with oleoresin capsicum (OC) during security reaction force training in hangar bay three of the Navy's only forward-deployed aircraft carrier, USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). The training is designed to simulate having to fight through several obstacles against different aggressors after being exposed to OC. Ronald Reagan is participating in Valiant Shield 2016, a biennial, U.S.-only field-training exercise with a focus on integration of joint training among U.S. forces. This training enables real-world proficiency in sustaining joint forces through detecting, locating, tracking and engaging units at sea, in the air, on land and in cyberspace in response to a range of mission areas.
