Lauren Gates, from the Office of Naval Research, introduces Octavia to visitors during Fleet Week New York 2010. Octavia is a mobile, dexterous, social robot that can move around on wheels (mobile), pick up objects (dexterous) and express a range of humanlike facial emotions (social). The ONR human robotics interaction research program focuses on the abilities of teams of humans and autonomous systems to communicate clearly, collaborate to solve problems, and interact via means both locally and remotely.
