The Marines and sailors were given liberty and instructed to explore Lima to help them gain an appreciation for Peruvian culture. Task Force Koa Moana is in Peru as part of a theater security cooperation engagement to integrate and improve interoperability with Peruvian Marines. Koa Moana is a U.S. Marine Corps-led exercise designed to enhance military ties with Honduras and several Pacific nations including Peru, Tahiti, Fiji, Vanuatu, Tonga, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste and Guam.
