Lt. Gen. Stephen J. Townsend, commander of Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Inherent Resolve, encounters 2nd Lt. Ryan Krause during his visit to Kara Soar Base, Iraq. The commander awarded the Purple Heart to the Soldier years earlier following Krause’s combat injury while serving in Afghanistan. Townsend visited the Ft. Campbell-based unit, Headquarters Battery, 1st Battalion, 320 Field Artillery Regiment, 101st Division Artillery, August 2016. The mission of Operation Inherent Resolve is to defeat Da’esh (an Arabic acronym for ISIL) in Iraq and Syria by supporting the Government of Iraq with trainers, advisors and fire support, to include aerial strikes and artillery fire.
