A recruit from Mike Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion, executes an uppercut strike during a Marine Corps Martial Arts Program class at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Aug. 31. One of the purposes of MCMAP is to teach recruits how to defeat the enemy using hand-to-hand combat. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Mike Company is scheduled to graduate Nov.18.
