SAN DIEGO (Aug. 12, 2016) - A Landing Craft Air Cushion taxis out of the well deck of the USS Makin Island (LHD-8) to move Light Armored Vehicles to Camp Pendleton during the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit's Composite Training Unit Exercise aboard the USS Makin Island (LHD-8), Aug. 14, 2016. The MEU's mission is to provide a rapid-response force capable of conducting amphibious operations, crisis response and selected maritime special operations from the sea, by surface, land or air assets.
