Kelly Noble, from Raleigh, North Carolina, a microbiologist assigned to hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH 19), discusses the disaster relief coordination in response to Hurricane Katrina in 2005 to participants of a Pacific Partnership 2016 medical disaster symposium. During the symposium, participants discussed disaster relief efforts, communication between state and local governments, and the role of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. This is the first time Mercy and Pacific Partnership have visited Malaysia. During the mission stop partner nations are working side-by-side with local military and civilian organizations in a search and rescue exercise, civil engineering projects, community relation events and subject matter expert exchanges.
