U.S. Army Spc. Alan George, 1st Battalion, 124th Infantry regiment, Bravo Company, hangs a mortar round before releasing it for deployment Aug. 8, 2016, at Arta, Djibouti. The process of ‘hanging’ a mortar involves holding the mortar round in the launch tube and, once the command of fire is announced, dropping the round in the tube for discharge.
