Brig. Gen. John Goodale, the assistant adjutant general of the Idaho Army National Guard, greets Gabriela Ioan, widow of Lt. Gen. Sorin Ioan, and Dodre Mario, Ioan’s nephew, at the Romanian Land Forces Training Center, Cincu, Romania, Aug. 4. The family was honored by the U.S. in recognition of Ioan’s service as the Chief of Staff of the Romanian Land Forces from 2004 to 2006. The ceremony took place during the distinguished visitors day during Exercise Saber Guardian 16. Saber Guardian is a multinational military exercise involving approximately 2,800 military personnel from nine nations including Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Canada, Georgia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Ukraine and the U.S. The objectives of this exercise are to build multinational, regional and joint partnership capacity by enhancing military relationships, exchanging professional experiences, and improving interoperability between the land forces from the participating countries.
