U.S. Army Col. Viet Luong, commander of 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division, of Fort Campbell, Ky., re-enlists U.S. Army Sgt. Brandon Bougades, team leader with Troop C, 1st Squadron, 33rd Cavalry Regiment, at Forward Operating Base Salerno, Afghanistan, May 7. Bougades, a native of White Sulphur, W.Va., escaped death as his vehicle struck and improvised explosive device on the same day as his re-enlistment appointment and birthday. Bougades will serve in the U.S. Army for six more years.
