FORT CARSON, Colorado – Lt. Col. Chad Foster, commander, 4th Squadron, 10th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, gives a unit coin to George Payton Jr., 79, former command sergeant major of the squadron, during a dedication ceremony for the Buffalo Soldier Community Memorial at Stargazers Theatre in Colorado Springs, Colorado, July 28, 2016. The monument, which is on display at Memorial Park in Colorado Springs, was dedicated on the 150th anniversary of the formation of the original 10th Cavalry Regiment, a segregated African American unit of cavalrymen who earned the Buffalo Soldier nickname from the Cheyenne warriors they fought while defending frontier settlers following the Civil War.
