Iraqi and U.S. Soldiers provide security for The Government of Iraq Director General of Municipalities and the U. S. State Department Provincial Reconstruction Team on opening day of the Baqubah Landfill in the Diyala province, Iraq, April 22. The Baqubah Landfill ribbon cutting coincided with the worldwide celebration of Earth Day 2010. Solid waste management is a constant problem and a serious health risk throughout Diyala province. The U.S. Army 37th Engineers Battalion, the Iraqi Army 5th Field Engineer Regiment, and the Municipalities Directorate planned and coordinated the construction of the Landfill.
