U.S. Army Sgt. Daniel R. Rodriguez, from Stafford, Va., with Troop B, 3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, Task Force Destroyer, receives a Bronze Star Medal with Valor for his actions during a complex enemy attack on Combat Outpost Keating in eastern Afghanistan's Nuristan province, Oct. 3. Rodriguez was in the aid station when several rocket-propelled grenade rounds impacted inside the perimeter. With disregard for his own personal safety, he ran 300 meters, under heavy fire, to take over use of a M240B machinegun, when one of his fellow Soldiers was killed. Rodriguez laid down suppressive fire on the enemy assault. When the enemy advance reached his position, he employed fragmentation grenades, driving back several enemy fighters, preventing more enemy forces from breaching the perimeter and engaging the maneuver elements fighting below. Gen. George W. Casey, the Chief of Staff of the Army, presents Rodriguez's award, on Forward Operating Base Fenty in eastern Afghanistan's Nangarhar province, April 30. (Photo by: Pfc. Beth Raney)
