Fort Story, Va. July 21, 2016.– Spc. Christina Flanighan (Army) and CS1 Civil Wilner (Navy) battled it out in this quarter’s Top Chef Competition at Lighthouse Café.
For this Caribbean Cuisine Summer Splash the Commander’s Cup and Medal for Diner’s Choice was on the line. In order to compete for the Army Resolute team, Soldiers must attend chef of the quarter board to demonstrate their knowledge in job related and Soldiering skills. There are two boards, one for Jr. enlisted, and one for NCOs. Winners of the Jr. enlisted and NCO board chooses three other competitors that also attended the board to assist them in the competition. With teams set in place they’re given a theme “Caribbean foods”. Teams are given a list of ingredients and a time limit and must create their own menu. Points are awarded for preparation, taste and presentation. Two awards are given the “Commander’s Cup” and “Diner’s Choice” awards. The Army won both this quarter. There will be another competition next quarter and a final Top Chef of the year will take place in October.
