A close look at the helm aboard U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Eagle provides evidence of its unique history and its original name. The tall ship was obtained by the Coast Guard as a war prize following World War II; originally a German naval training ship, Cutter Eagle was actually commissioned the Horst Wessel, and built in 1936 in Hamburg, Germany.
