Army Sgt. 1st Class Steven W. Downey, first sergeant, 313th Military Police (MP) Detachment, directs a Japanese citizen to one of the many event venues that culminated into the 2016 Independence Day Celebration conducted at Camp Zama, Japan, July 2, 2016. Downey, a native of Barstow, California, and his fellow Army Reserve MP specialists conducted patrols, directed traffic and helped patrons during this open post event that attracted more than 7,000 American and Japanese citizens to Camp Zama to celebrate America’s 240th year of independence. Approximately 25 Soldiers from the 313th MP Detachment, 366th MP Detachment and the 382nd MP Detachment also attended classes, earned certifications, participated in training events, and performed real-world missions as part of their units’ first ever three-week Annual Training period in Japan.
