SAN ANTONIO – (June 23, 2016) Navy recruiters, Aviation Boatswain’s Mate 2nd Class Benjamin Brown of Navy Recruiting Station (NRS) De Zavala and Logistics Specialist 1st Class Selene Mejia of NRS Southeast observe middle school girls assemble an underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV) during a SeaPerch Competition held at the Ann Barshop Natatorium on the campus of the University of the Incarnate Word as a part of the miniGEMS (Girls in Engineering, Math and Sciences) program. SeaPerch is an innovative underwater robotics program that equips teachers and students with the resources they need to build an underwater ROV in an in-school or out-of-school setting. Brown, a native of Albany, Ga., graduated from Westover High School and Mejia, a native of Weslaco, Texas, is a graduate of Weslaco East High School.
