Paul Zukunft recognizes (from left to right) Petty Officer 1st Class Kevin Oakes of Stratford, Conn., Petty Officer 3rd Class Augustin Foguet of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Seaman Manon Mullen of Honolulu June 16, 2016, at 9:30 a.m. for their quick-thinking and ingenuity that helped save the mission of the nation’s only heavy icebreaker, Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star, following a recent deployment to Antarctica. The crew members made mission-saving repairs to the 40-year-old cutter, which allowed the cutter to break a path through 6- to 8-foot ice for supply ships bound for the U.S. science station there.
