Lance Cpl. Tim Eastep, rifleman with 1st platoon, Alpha Company, Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, provides suppression fire using his M249 squad automatic weapon, allowing his team to advance forward, during a mechanized assault as part of a live fire range in Djibouti, Africa, March 29. Amphibious assault vehicles from Amphibious Assault Vehicle platoon, transported infantry Marines to advance to their objective points in a mountainous environment. 24th MEU Marines performed a series of sustainment and joint exercises alongside the French military service members while in Djibouti. The 24th MEU is currently serves as the theatre reserve force for Central Command during its seven month deployment aboard Nassau Amphibious Ready Group vessels.
