    22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit

    Seaman Paul J. Burdess, an aviation boatswain's mate from USS Bataan, bench-presses 350 pounds during a weight-lifting competition aboard USS Bataan, March 28. The 22nd MEU, embarked aboard USS Bataan, deployed in support of Operation Unified Response after an earthquake devastated the country of Haiti, Jan. 12. Local and national government leaders, the United Nations, and non-governmental organizations took over primary responsibilities of humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations within the 22nd MEU's area of responsibility.
