With help from Nigerian navy Cmdr. Godffrey Kwetishe (right), Petty Officer 2nd Class Cory Clare (left), from Apopka, Fla., connects the battery terminals to a radiosonde attached to a weather balloon held by Lt. Brandon Le (center), from Monterey, Calif., on the flight deck of the Whidbey Island-class amphibious dock-landing ship USS Gunston Hall before a scheduled launch. All three are part of an international Africa Partnership Station West staff embarked aboard the ship. Gunston Hall is on a scheduled deployment to West Africa in support of APS West, an international initiative developed by Naval Forces Europe and Naval Forces Africa that aims to improve maritime safety and security in West and Central Africa.
