Rustand, a B-17 bomber pilot killed in World War II, during a Memorial Day ceremony at the Luxembourg American Cemetery and Memorial in Luxembourg, May 28, 2016. Rustand died when his B-17 came under enemy fire during a mission near Merseburg, Germany, and crashed on Nov. 2, 1944, nearly half a year before Lieurance was born.
