160523-N-QW941-193 PACIFIC OCEAN (May 23, 2016) Chief Aviation Boatswain's Mate (Handling) Gerry Elam, a native of Longview, Texas, stands by as Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 21 personnel perform preflight checks aboard USNS Mercy (T-AH 19). Deployed in support of Pacific Partnership 2016, Mercy's mission is designed to emphasize multilateral cooperation and building mutual trust in the Indo-Asia-Pacific. Medical, engineering and various other personnel embarked aboard Mercy will work side-by-side with partner nation counterparts, exchanging ideas, building best practices and relationships to ensure preparedness should disaster strike.
