An AV-8B Harrier II hovers above the crowd at the 2016 Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point Air Show – “Celebrating 75 Years” at MCAS Cherry Point, N.C., April 29, 2016. The AV-8B Harrier II represents the Marine Corps advanced capabilities through its short, vertical takeoff and landing capabilities with the ability to hover like a helicopter and accelerate forward like a jet at near supersonic speeds by use of its VSTOL engines producing 22,000 pounds of thrust. This year’s air show celebrated MCAS Cherry Point and 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing’s 75th anniversary and featured 40 static displays, 17 aerial performers with something fun for all ages including great food, a concert, fireworks and a kids fun zone.
