Sgt. Larry K. Hicks Jr. explains his career responsibilities to a student May 2 during a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics Week demonstration by explosive ordnance disposal at Bechtel Elementary School on Camp McTureous, Okinawa, Japan. STEM Week provides children with interactive learning scenarios that exemplify the use of science, technology, engineering and mathematics in everyday life and in various careers. During the EOD demonstration, Marines demonstrated the use of robots and protective equipment. After the demonstration, students were invited to don the protective equipment and perform physical fitness challenges. The Marines also answered the students’ questions about their equipment, responsibilities and career paths. Hicks is an EOD technician with Headquarters and Support Battalion, Marine Corps Installations Pacific-Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, Japan, and a Concordia, Missouri, native.
