Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, MD - Seaman Justin Kuffel thrusts a rifle and bayonet inches from U.S. Navy Airman Brady Smith's face during a training session at their facility at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, Maryland on April 21st, 2016. Seaman Kuffel and Airman Smith are both members of the U.S. Navy's Ceremonial Guard Drill Team, who specialize in demonstrations such as these.
While the training may seem dangerous, every step, pivot, and movement are meticulously choreographed.
The Ceremonial Guard's main mission is to represent the service in Presidential, Joint Armed Forces, Navy and public ceremonies in and around the nation’s capital.
Members are selected directly from basic, and train continuously throughout the length of their tour.
