Chief Petty Officer Claude Marcelin, a gas turbine system mechanic and French and Creole translator from Miami, Fla., who is embarked aboard USNS Comfort (T-AH 20), assists a patient at an intermediate aftercare facility in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Comfort is collaborating with other elements of the joint task force supporting Operation Unified Response, in addition to USAID and nongovernmental organizations ashore, to develop post-operative care solutions for patients being discharged from the hospital ship. The patient's injuries stem from a 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck the nation Jan. 12. Through this process, Comfort is better able to continue providing critical care while ensuring that those discharged receive necessary follow on treatment.
