Capt. Rodelio Laco, commander, Task Group 41.8, assists Dr. Anthony Alessi, a nongovernmental organization volunteer neurosurgeon, assemble a cot at Saint Damien Hospital De Chateau-Blond for use in providing follow on care for patients from USNS Comfort (T-AH 20). Laco is responsible for the operational coordination of Comfort's activities to receive, treat and discharge patients from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, affected by the earthquake that struck Jan. 12. The U.S. government has hundreds of medical personnel on the ground in Haiti, including doctors, nurses, paramedics and emergency medical technicians who are working closely with a multinational group of nongovernmental organizations to help Haiti recover from this disaster.
