Marines from the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit transport patients discharged from USNS Comfort (T-AH 20) to an intermediate aftercare facility in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Comfort is collaborating with other elements of the joint task force supporting Operation Unified Response, in addition to USAID and nongovernmental organizations ashore, to develop post-operative care solutions for patients being discharged from the hospital ship. Through this process Comfort is better able to continue providing critical care while ensuring that those discharged receive necessary follow on treatment.
