Navy Capt. John Bruening, commander, Amphibious Squadron Eight (CPR 8), Marine Capt. Gabriel Diana, Headquarters and Service Company Commander, and Marine Col. Pete Petronzio, commander 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, walk through Gracie Village in Carrefour, Haiti. This tent city covers 10 acres around a church, school and orphanage and houses more than 17,000 Haitians. PHIBRON is deployed as part of the Nassau Amphibious Ready Group/ 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of Operation Unified Response, the humanitarian aid/disaster relief mission in Haiti. The NAS ARG/24 MEU is comprised of embarked Marines from the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, the multi-purpose amphibious assault ship USS Nassau (LHA 4), the amphibious dock landing ship USS Ashland (LSD 48), and the amphibious transport dock ship USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19).
