Capt. John Bruening, commander, Amphibious Squadron Eight, crosses an I-beam to come ashore at Food Distribution Point No. 16 in the Haitian City of Carrefour during a recent tour. CPR 8 is deployed as part of the Nassau Amphibious Ready Group/ 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit in support of Operation Unified Response, the humanitarian aid/disaster relief mission in Haiti. The NAS ARG/24 MEU is comprised of embarked Marines from the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, the multi-purpose amphibious assault ship USS Nassau (LHA 4), the amphibious dock landing ship USS Ashland (LSD 48), and the amphibious transport dock ship USS Mesa Verde (LPD 19).
