Chief Yeoman Craig Flowers, assigned to U.S. Naval War College (NWC) in Newport, Rhode Island, and Sailors assigned to Naval Station (NAVSTA) Newport pick up debris as part of a CPO 365 base beautification project onboard NAVSTA Newport. The event was organized as part of the week’s events to honor the 123rd birthday of the chief petty officer (CPO). The grade of CPO was established April 1, 1893, and encompassed nine rates; Chief Master-at-Arms, Chief Boatswain’s Mate, Chief Quartermaster, Chief Gunner’s Mate, Chief Machinist, Chief Carpenter’s Mate, Chief Yeoman and Apothecary.
