1st Lt. Sean McCarthy flies a UH-1Y Venom during low-light training at Camp Pendleton March 3, 2016. Marines only have the opportunity to conduct low-light training a few nights per month, when the moon is not providing illumination. The live-fire training included use of a GAU-17/A Gatling gun, GAU-21 .50-caliber machine gun, and 70mm rockets. McCarthy, a native of Orchard Park, N.Y., is a UH-1Y Venom pilot with Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 267, Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing.
