Aids to Navigation Team Woods Hole service lights atop buoys and structures [Image 2 of 4]
Petty Officer 1st Class David Skena passes equipment from atop an aids to navigation structure to Petty Officer 2nd Class John Price, Sunday, March 1, 2016, in Buzzards Bay. Skena removed an old lighting system, which included a battery, solar panel, and 155 millimeter lantern with a single LED component with the same capabilities. According to Skena the new system has several advantages. With the old systems, large birds, such as ospreys, would build nest on the solar panels rendering them inoperable. The new self-contained systems are too small for birds to build on. (U.S. Coast Guard photo by Petty Officer 3rd Class Andrew Barresi)
