Private First Class Armando Sajbin, Echo Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, makes plans with his fire team about how to complete an obstacle during the Crucible at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, Calif., Feb. 24. One rule that was consistent across all challenges was to avoid the areas painted red, which simulated a casualty and forced the teams to strategize at some points. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego.
