Rear Adm. Daniel Abel, commander, Coast Guard 17th District, observes remotely operated vehicle operators ready the subsea containment system aboard the Arctic Challenger near Samish Island, Wash., March 27, 2015. The ROV operators serve as an integral part of the containment system, using the ROV to survey the drilling riser and oil well for leaks, to connect winch cables to the clump weights that are used to move the containment dome into it's final position, close the gas release valves on the dome and disconnect the fender from the dome prior to the system processing the oil and gas spilling from the well.
